Gold Sovereign Coins are free from Capital Gains Tax (CGT)
The big advantage that gold sovereigns have for UK resident investors, stems from a little known fact. (At the time of writing) Because they are coin of the realm and classed as money/sterling, any profit made when they are sold is free of capital gains tax (C.G.T.). This applies to all sovereigns minted from and including the reign of Queen Victoria onwards and also, incidentally applies to the more recently issued gold Britannias. Buying Gold Sovereigns is therefore very tax efficient.
