Australian Kangaroo gold coins or Kangaroo Nuggets, as they are more commonly known, were first introduced by the Perth Mint in 1989. Originally an image of the worlds largest nugget, The Welcome Stranger discovered in Western Australia in 1869, was stamped on the coin. However in 1990 this image was replaced with an image of a  Kangaroo, with a different one appearing on the coin every year.
The word 'nugget' remained on the coin until 2008 giving the gold coin the nickname 'Kangaroo Nugget'.

The heaviest of our gold coins, the 1oz Kangaroo gold Nugget is made of 24 karat gold and bears Elizabeth II portrait on the obverse. This beautifully crafted gold coin is popular among collectors and investors alike.
