Krugerrand Purity
The weight of a Krugerrand coin is 1.0909 troy ounces (33093 g), it is 32.6 mm in diameter and 2.74 mm thick. It is minted from gold alloy that is 91.67% pure which is 22 karats, so the coin contains one troy ounce (31.1035g) of gold. The remaining weight of the coin is copper; this makes up 8.33% of the coins weight. The Krugerrand’s orange appearance comes from the copper in the coin historically known as the crown gold which has long been used for English sovereign coins.
